SWEDISH DEFENDING CHAMPIONS RULE THE DAY!

Leaving the rest biting their taildust, the Swedish culinary national team has emerged winners of the 21st IKA Culinary Olympics with gold medals in all categories! Ecstatic at their second Olympic win in a row, the Swedes, clutching their turquoise and yellow national flag, let out a roar of success that rang out across Hall 1 and exemplified the team spirit that has carried them this far at the world’s biggest culinary competition. A total point score of 442.990 separated them by 7.396 points from the runners-up, Switzerland. Team USA took third place with 428.71 points to much loud whooping and cheering from American supporters in the audience stands.

The Germans Snap Up Top Honours at Pastry And Military Cooking

Germany has won both the Pastry and the Military competitions, outscoring their competitors by several points. They were the first to bring their nation glory at today’s awards ceremony with a gold and high silver medal in the Pastry category. With 2 golds standing at a total of 170.06 points in the Military Teams competition, and only 3 points separating them from military team from USA who came in second, the Germans pleasantly surprised local supporters again.

Swiss Top The Regional And Junior Teams Competitions

The Swiss have also picked up the IKA Cup at the Regional Team category (closely followed by the Canadians from Ontario in second place and the Americans in third) and the Junior Team category. Leading with three gold medals, the ecstatic team of young Swiss chefs proved too talented even for the Swedes, who also earned three gold medals, though they were trailing a few points behind their Swiss counterparts. The Norwegian youths took third place with a high silver and two golds.

First Time Competitors Do Their Countries Proud

Brand new WACS member Bahamas, who just became officially accepted into the world family of chefs this year, earned for themselves two bronze medals and two diplomas, and were warmly received by the crowds at Erfurt this morning. To have come this far at their first try in the Culinary Olympics is truly an honour for the members of this team. Likewise for the Maltese with one silver, two bronze and one diploma, and the Egyptians, who have earned an even four bronzes. Well done, and see you at the next international competition!

Asians Go Home with Many Medals

The only three countries representing Asia at the Culinary Olympics, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, bring back with them a caseful of gold, silver and bronze medals each. Winning three silvers and one diploma, the Japanese, for whom Western cooking is not a native skill, have done extremely well to bring culinary recognition to Asia. The animated Singaporeans celebrated their achievement of two gold medals, one silver and one bronze with a bawdy cheer on stage that brought smiles to the audience, Team Malaysia will be bringing home four bronze medals for their efforts here in Erfurt on the world culinary stage. Congratulations!!!!
