Women in WACS is an initiative within the World Association of Chefs’ Societies to make the increasing number of women members more visible, retain their talents for the food industry by introducing them to different career paths, and support them in their professional advancement through networking and mentoring.

Since the Congress in Santiago de Chile four profiles of women chefs have been added to the WACS website, highlighting the talents of Cornelia Ghisoi (Europe South: Romania), Tarja Sankari (Americas: Mexico/Finland), T.Y. Leung (Asia: Hong Kong) and Joanna Ochniak (Europe Central: Poland). The series will continue with Cassandra Hayden (Pacific Region: Australia).

With great success, we started the Women in the World Association of Chefs’ Societies Facebook site and invite all national chefs associations to join our group. To date, we have gathered 260 women group members from 37 countries representing all WACS regions.

With input from Australia, Norway and Poland, we have started a Women in WACS database and now ask all national chefs’ associations to forward the names and email addresses of their women members to Ragnar Fridrikson at ragnar@passionfood.fr to help us with our worldwide outreach.

To increase the participation of women chefs in the next WACS Congress, our objective is to make at least two travel stipends available per WACS region. To that purpose, we are focusing on potential corporate sponsors and fundraising activities within each WACS region.

Thank you for your tremendous support!
